Marcos Levy’s Favorite Shortcuts for Windows Machines

To Mouse or Not To Mouse — That is the question…

The answer is up to your own personal preference.    I am a big lover of Keyboard Shortcuts.  I find them faster than the mouse in many cases, and I don’t have to interrupt my work flow to use them.  Here are my TOP TEN most used (and then some)

Windows + D   – (hold the windows key down and then tap the “D” key)  – this shows desktop by minimizing all your open windows.  Pressing it again will bring the windows back.

Windows + E — this opens the “My Computer” window.  I find this helpful when I have just plugged in a memory stick and need to find it.  Also a great place to start when trying to find anything on your computer.

ALT + F4 – closes the active window.  This is the same as clicking on the “x” in the upper right corner of the window

F5 – while browsing the internet, this Refreshes the view.   Also works with an Explorer window (e.g. “my Computer”)

ALT + TAB —  Switch windows (or tasks) Hold and keep down ALT Key and then Press TAB.  This brings up a visual of all the windows you have running.  Keep ALT key down and press TAB again to change windows.  Let go of ALT and you are there!

CTRL + B    CTRL + I  and CTRL + U  — Toggles on and off  BOLD, Italics, and underline  respectively  (works in most programs including WordPress in which this is being created)

CTRL + C,  CTRL +V,  CTRL + X  — These commands, found in the edit menu, are COPY, PASTE, and CUT respectively

CTRL + A — Selects ALL.  All content on a page or all files in a folder

CTRL +F  –  While viewing a web page, this brings up the FIND function.  Works in many other programs as well

ALT +LEFT ARROW  – navigate back a page in a web browser
ALT +RIGHT ARROW  – navigate forward a page in a web browser

ALT +D — Brings you to the Address Bar of your browser window or explorer window.  Allows you then to quickly type in a new address.

So there you have it.  These are the ones I find most useful.  There are many more.  If you are keen, you can have a lot of fun researching them.  Here’s to productivity!
